| Name: | Stephen Maturin |
|---|
Stephen is a ship's surgeon, naturalist, and spy, the illegitimate son of an Irish officer and a Catalonian noblewoman. He is 38 years old, skinny and short (5'6"), with odd pale eyes, black close-cropped hair, and three missing fingernails on his left hand, the result of being tortured by the French in Minorca. He speaks with a slight Irish accent, and is fluent in multiple languages, including French, Spanish, Latin, and Catalan. Despite his unpreposessing appearance, he has a sharp tongue and a bad temper, and a penchant for fighting duels. Being a spy, he is also extremely cagey and has a habit of lying. Approach with caution.
Stephen is from Patrick O'Brian's Aubrey-Maturin series (the basis for the film "Master and Commander"), and arrives on Tabula Rasa around book 8 of the series, in the year 1813, shortly after marrying the love of his life, Diana Villiers. His inventory is as follows:
1 shabby black frock-coat
1 not-very-clean white shirt
1 grubby white neckcloth
1 pair grey breeches
1 pair white lambswool stockings
1 pair of black lead-soled boots
1 very sharp lancet (a type of scalpel)
1 pair steel-rimmed reading glasses
1 pair of drawers (or whatever men wore as underwear in 1813)
1 brown waistcoat
Stephen Maturin is the creation and property of Patrick O'Brian, who is not me. Stephen's PB is Paul Bettany, with whom I am (alas) not associated in any way. This journal was created for the purpose of role-playing in
